Notting Hill Rhapsody

A period home, reimagined around the family living in it.

Set behind the grand facade of a Victorian mansion house in Notting Hill, this project began where the architects' work ended.

M. and J. had just completed an ambitious rear extension, and the house was polished, generous and entirely impersonal. Their brief was refreshingly clear: give it its personality back, and make it a place they were genuinely excited to fill with friends, family and their three children.

We gave every floor its own energy: a Latin American-inspired cinema room and bar below ground for weekend rituals, a boldly coloured dining room built around a bespoke table and credenza for a family who live for entertaining, a souk-inspired library full of character, and a master bedroom wrapped in Japanese inspired wallpaper as a quiet cocoon at the top of the house.

The result is a home where every room tells its own story, yet the whole house reads as one confident, cohesive statement; proof that bold and elegant were never mutually exclusive.
