‘Wine-spa?’ you ask. Yes. You read correctly. Just at the time when we are trying to consume less of this tempting tipple, it seems that we could actually benefit from over-indulging! Ella di Rocco Medi-Spa is a one of a kind wellness centre with unique treatments and definitely a one of a kind project! Recently we had the honour of receiving a prestigious award for our design ~Thank you UK Property Awards for our selection as winner of Leisure Interiors for 2018-2019.
Ella di Rocco is the only spa in the UK to unravel a time-old treatment, which had yet to be fine-tuned for today’s savvy wellness market:~ Total. Wine. Immersion. (I hear you cheer!). For example, in the MediSpa baths, you do actually bath in wine, (Sangiovese to be precise!), reaping the benefits of skin revitalising antioxidants, as they used to do in Ancient Rome. This timeless yet luxuriously modern experience needed to be reflected in the interiors.

These days, there is a holistic approach to wellness-linking body, mind and emotion- so it makes sense that the place in which it happens should do the same; The ambience, the light, along with the smell and sound all make up for this personal experience, that relies on our sensory responses. No longer are spas clinical or invasive like the hot-rooms of yesteryear. New lighting, sound and especially therapy technology have elevated the practice of clinical treatments of solitude, to engaging and enjoyable experiences. Accomplished of course with design that is as tailor-made as the treatments.
The challenge: A luxury wellness centre inside a retail space with limited square footage.
The result: A seamless space beautifully connected by colour, ambient lighting and clever storage.
The journey: Through glass doors at street level guests are greeted by a relaxing reception and waiting area with bespoke seats and tables. A composition of shelves and circular mirrors lining the walls, showcase products and keep the space streamlined. On the lower ground floor, there are three rooms for beauty treatments, equipped with treatment beds and dimmable lighting, adjusted according to customer needs. The main Spa area is also located on the lower ground level reached via a spiral staircase, where the walls are lined with custom-made wallpaper.
The personality: The Spa is characterised by velvety green walls and monochrome floor tiles that mirror the geometric pattern of the staircase. Carefully selected satin brass fittings contrast tactually with the depth of the green resin walls, like adornment on a silk gown. It’s a sensual environment, where time seems to slow down and the experience is always pampering, personal and most certainly memorable. .
