Colour – Our Picks

This year has thrown out a whole array of brights, and our favourite is the rich, exuberant indigo blue. Not only does it suit a fresh white scheme as a splash of colour, it also works well as a background for fresh textures and metallic’s such as copper and bronze sit very well on top of it.

Don’t be afraid to use dark colours in a room, it can be soothing, warm and a stunning statement. Ro chair by Jaime Hayon at Fritz Hansen

We’ve seen brilliant throws in Habitat this season, kitchenware and lighting in Heals, stunning linen throws by Caroline Z Hurley and a new range from Marimekko.

Although not technically a colour, white has our vote this season – bright, soft, fluffy, lacquered, rough – showing off textures simply and elegantly.  White gives a clinical feeling with only hard surfaces but by adding fur, cottons, leathers and sheers – a much more comfortable feeling is achieved. Try white on white for a style statement.

The colours for 2014 are set to be pastel brights according to Pantone – the most anticipated of which by us is a soft coral ‘Cayenne’,  a bright yellow ‘Freesia’ and ‘Sand’.  These are to be paired by mixing coloured furniture such as seen back in the mid-century. To implement this into a home, we suggest picking two of your favourite pastel brights, and add a subtle splash of each – to items such as glasses, plates, rugs, throws and lighting. – easily changed with new seasons if you wish.

Interiors follow fashion – Pantone’s ‘Placid Blue’ and ‘Cayenne’ seen here for 2014. These will hugely influence the palettes of fabrics, paints, wallpapers, kitchen ware etc.
